In plain language

Taking more than one advance at the same time.

Each advance has its own payment, so the combined payment can exceed what the business can carry. Reviews look closely at the combined burden.

Why it matters

It is the most common way a manageable payment becomes an unmanageable one.

An example

Two payments of $350 and $450 a day total $800 a day, about $16,800 a month.

What to watch for

In practice for Canadian businesses

Many files carry more than one. The question is whether combined payments fit the month.

Questions to ask

In a file review

When a file shows more than one advance, the reviewer adds the payments and compares them with monthly deposits, then reads the history on each. Two advances with clean payment history and room in the month are read very differently from three taken in the same quarter.

A common misreading

Stacking is not automatically a reason for decline. It is a reason for closer arithmetic, and sometimes for a consolidation.
