Trucking repairs

A truck in the shop: screen the repair before you fund it.

For a regional fleet, one tractor down means lost loads every day. Here is how to put the repair, downtime and existing obligations on one page and decide if funding the repair actually pays.

Who this is for, and the rules

Updated October 13, 2026 · Merchant Fund Express

Regional and local carriers with an operating fleet and repeat freight. We do not promise funding for long-haul trucking.

Trucking carries its own rules on our revenue-based tier: 3 years in business, $200,000 in revenue, and contracts with Amazon, FedEx or UPS. A carrier without those contracts may still read against our first tier (3+ years, 650+ FICO, $25,000 a month, 8+ deposits). See funding requirements before applying.

The repair on one page (illustrative)

A six-tractor regional carrier running dedicated routes for a parcel contract loses an engine on one unit.

ItemAmount
Repair invoice (in-frame rebuild, parts and labor)$24,600
Shop time9 business days
Revenue that unit earns per working day$1,150
Revenue lost during repair (9 days)$10,350
Insurance / warranty coverageNone (wear item, out of warranty)
Existing obligations on the fleetTwo tractor notes: $5,200 a month combined
Fleet deposits, last 3 months average$118,000 a month

All figures in worked examples are illustrations of the arithmetic, not offers or quotes. Real terms depend on your file and the funder.

The affordability screen

Lay the payment against the fleet, not the one truck. Three tests:

TestNumbersRead
Payment vs. the repaired truck’s revenue$720 a week vs. about $5,750 a week earnedCovered about 8 times
All debt payments vs. fleet deposits$5,200 notes + $3,120 a month new = $8,320 vs. $118,000About 7%
Worst month testDeposits fall 20% to $94,400; fuel and payroll unchangedCheck the balance stays above zero after all debits

If the truck earns its payment several times over and the fleet’s debt load stays modest in a weak month, the repair is worth funding. If the truck is underused or the contract is ending, it may be cheaper to park or sell the unit.

Repair, rent or replace

Repair: fastest back to revenue. Fits working capital, since the invoice is due when the truck leaves the shop.
Rent a unit while it is down: keeps the contract covered. Add the rental to the downtime cost.
Replace: for high-mileage units where the next big repair is close. Fits equipment financing, secured by the new tractor.

When not to borrow

The route or contract the truck serves is ending.
Your account already shows repeated negative days; see the limits on requirements.
The fleet is long-haul spot freight with no contracted work. We do not promise funding there.
You plan to stack a third position on top of two existing advances.

What to send

Three months of business bank statements as PDFs, every operating account
The repair estimate or invoice from the shop
Your carrier contract pages (Amazon, FedEx or UPS for the revenue-based tier)
A list of existing truck notes, advances and any factoring agreement

Factored carriers should read funding with factored revenue first. For a broader view see trucking funding and urgent truck repairs. Then check what you qualify for.

Common questions

Do you fund truck repairs for long-haul carriers?

We do not promise funding for long-haul trucking. Regional and local carriers that meet the trucking rules are reviewed.

What are the trucking requirements?

On the revenue-based tier: 3 years in business, $200,000 in revenue and contracts with Amazon, FedEx or UPS. Our first tier has its own published thresholds.

How fast can a repair be funded?

Same-day decisions on complete files, with funding in as little as 24 hours for qualified businesses.

Should I repair or replace a high-mileage tractor?

If the next major repair is close and the unit is past most of its life, price a replacement with equipment financing and compare the yearly cost.

Does an existing truck note count against me?

It is counted as an obligation. A funder reads it alongside your deposits to see whether a new payment fits.
