What documents do you need for revenue-based financing?

Short answer: Two documents answer most questions: a signed application with the business name, structure, owner details, business number and request, and the last four months of complete, unedited bank statements for every account the business uses for revenue. Larger requests or platform-heavy businesses may also be asked for payout reports.

Key facts

  • Signed application with business number
  • Four months of statements, every account
  • Platform payout reports for online sellers
  • Payoff letters for any existing advance

The core two

Signed applicationBusiness name and legal structure, owner details, business number, address, industry and how much you are asking for.
Business bank statementsTypically the last four months, complete and unedited, for every account the business uses for revenue.

These two documents answer most questions. The statements show revenue, its consistency, fixed costs, existing obligations and how the account is managed. The application ties the statements to a real, registered business and its owner.

Extras that speed things up

What is not usually needed

For most revenue-based files, you do not need a business plan, projections, tax returns or appraisals. Larger requests may ask for more, such as year-end financial statements or recent tax filings. If additional documents are needed, you are told what and why.

Common document problems

Where Canadian files usually start

Monthly revenueTypically from around $20,000 a month in deposits for Canadian files. The exact line varies by funder and by file.
Time in businessTypically about 12 months. Newer businesses can be reviewed, but the options narrow.
Account healthLimited low-balance or negative days. Funders read the last few months of bank statements for this.
CreditScores from 500 are considered. A score of 600 or higher opens more options and better offers.
DocumentsA signed application and recent business bank statements, typically the last four months.
Existing advancesFiles with an existing advance can be reviewed, including second position.

Next step: apply once with a signed application and your last four months of business bank statements. The file is read for rBF documents checklist and matched to the structure that fits, whether that is revenue-based financing, a merchant cash advance or a smaller first advance that builds history.
