Are daily or weekly advance payments better?

Short answer: Neither is cheaper, because the total repaid is the same. Daily payments are smaller and smoother, which suits businesses with daily card deposits. Weekly payments are about five times larger but land once, which suits businesses paid in weekly or irregular batches. Choose the rhythm that matches your deposits.

Key facts

  • Same total repaid either way
  • Weekly payments are about five times a daily one
  • Daily suits daily card deposits
  • Ask which day the weekly debit falls

A worked example

Illustrative arithmetic

A service company depositing about $55,000 a month asks for $20,000 for a vehicle. At a 1.24 factor the payback is $24,800, a cost of $4,800. Over roughly 5 months that is about $236 per business day, or close to 9% of monthly deposits.

  • Total payback on the advance: $24,800.
  • Cost: $4,800.
  • Roughly $236 per business day, or about 9% of monthly deposits.

How to decide

Where people go wrong

The detail that usually decides it

Look at your statement and find your weakest day of the week. If a weekly debit would land there, ask for a different day or choose daily payments. Matching the debit to your deposit rhythm is one of the easiest ways to avoid negative days.

In practice

A worked look: a payback of $24,800 over about 105 business days is roughly $236 a day or $1,180 a week. A business that deposits $2,500 every weekday handles either easily. A business that receives one $12,000 deposit every Thursday will see the daily debit chip at its balance all week; a weekly debit on Friday fits its rhythm better.

Questions to ask before choosing

Bottom line

Neither costs more. Pick the rhythm that matches when your money arrives, and make sure the debit never lands before the deposit.

A worked example in Canadian dollars

One practical test: look at your last three months of statements and find the lowest balance in each week. If that low point is still comfortably above one weekly payment, weekly debits will work. If it often dips close to zero midweek, daily payments are gentler on the account.
