Positions
Position numbers sound like jargon, and they are really a count of how many advances are already collecting from you. Here is how to read them and what they do.

At Merchant Fund Express, here is the short answer: Each funder currently debiting your account is one position. Payments add together, and many programs cap how many positions they will read.
Each funder currently debiting your account is one position. If one funder collects daily and a second collects weekly, you have two positions. The count is a snapshot of who is ahead of a new advance.
| Advance | Payment | Per month |
|---|---|---|
| Position 1 | $300 a day | $6,510 |
| Position 2 | $1,200 a week | $5,160 |
| Combined monthly | $11,670 | |
| Monthly revenue | $58,000 | Share of revenue: about 20% |
Position matters because the payments add. A third funder is looking at the same revenue, so the question is always whether the total share is sustainable.
Many programs cap the number of positions. On this site the revenue-based tier allows up to two current advances.
Earlier positions typically have a prior claim on receivables. A newer funder is behind them.
A buyout or refinance can replace several positions with one. See consolidation.
For the related terms, see stacking and second position, and for the product, second position funding.
A restaurant has a $350 daily debit and a $900 weekly one. Combined, they take $11,000 a month against $58,000 of deposits, roughly 19%. A third funder would see the same deposits and a lower margin of room. The owner decides to retire the smaller balance first and then ask about consolidation, which is a sequence that works better than adding a third.

A renewal replaces the earlier balance with a new advance from the same funder, so it is usually one position, not two.
No. Only advances and loans collecting from the account count.
Yes. Past a certain number most programs will not add another, and a consolidation or buyout is the way back.
