Payment schedules

How to read a financing payment schedule, line by line.

Two offers with the same payment can end weeks apart once weekends and bank holidays are counted. Here is how to read a schedule, find the true last payment date and check that the totals add up.

The short answer

Updated October 13, 2026 · Merchant Fund Express

A payment schedule lists every scheduled payment: the date, the amount and, for loans, the split between interest and principal. Read it for four things: when the first payment hits, what counts as a payment day, how holidays are handled, and the date and size of the last payment. Then confirm that the number of payments times the payment equals the total payback or total repayment in the agreement.

The lines that matter

First payment dateOften the first business day after funding for daily debits; check whether it can be the same day
FrequencyDaily (business days), weekly (a named weekday) or monthly (a day of the month)
Payment amountFixed, or a percentage of sales for split-funded products
Number of paymentsBusiness days for daily schedules, weeks for weekly, months for monthly
Holiday ruleSkipped and added to the end, or moved to the next business day
Last paymentIts date and whether it is a smaller "odd" amount
TotalsPayments × amount should equal the total payback in the agreement

A daily schedule (illustrative)

Assumptions: $40,000 funded Friday, October 30, 2026. Total payback $52,000, paid by $400 debits on business days, so 130 debits. Debits do not run on weekends or bank holidays; a skipped holiday is added to the end.

Debit #DateAmountRemaining
1Mon Nov 2, 2026$400.00$51,600.00
7Tue Nov 10, 2026$400.00$49,200.00
skipWed Nov 11, 2026 (Veterans Day)none$49,200.00
8Thu Nov 12, 2026$400.00$48,800.00
skipThu Nov 26, 2026 (Thanksgiving)none
19Mon Nov 30, 2026$400.00$44,400.00
130Mon May 10, 2027$400.00$0.00

November 2026 has 21 weekdays but only 19 debit days, because two are bank holidays. December has 22 debit days (Christmas falls on a Friday). Counting every weekday and skipping the federal bank holidays through spring, the 130th debit lands on Monday, May 10, 2027. A quick "130 business days is about six months" estimate would put it at the end of April, more than a week early.

A weekly schedule (illustrative)

Same advance, weekly: $2,000 every Wednesday for 26 weeks, starting Wednesday, November 4, 2026. 26 × $2,000 = $52,000, which matches the total payback. The second payment falls on Wednesday, November 11, which is Veterans Day, so it moves to Thursday, November 12. Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Fridays, so they do not touch a Wednesday schedule. The 26th payment is Wednesday, April 28, 2027.

A weekly payment is the same money in larger pieces. It is easier to manage if your deposits arrive in a weekly rhythm, and harder if a single slow week leaves the account short on the debit day. See daily vs weekly payments.

A monthly loan schedule

A monthly amortization table adds two columns: interest and principal. Check that interest for each line equals the rate times the balance before that payment, that the balance falls by the principal column, and that the last line ends at zero. If the last line is much larger than the others, it is a balloon; read balloon payments before signing.

Five checks before you sign

Multiply: number of payments × payment = total in the agreement. If it does not, ask why.
Find the first debit date and make sure your account will have the money that morning.
Ask how holidays are handled, in writing. See ACH debits and holidays.
Find the last payment date and put it on your calendar; your renewal and payoff options are timed from it.
Compare offers on the same footing with the offer comparison calculator.

Documents and the next step

A funder sets the schedule from your bank activity, so expect them to read about 3 months of business bank statements as PDFs and the deposit rhythm in them. If you want a schedule built around your actual cash cycle, say so when you apply; the application takes about 5 minutes.

Common questions

Do daily payments come out on weekends?

Usually not. Daily ACH debits run on business days. Card-split products can behave differently because they follow card settlements.

What happens to a payment due on a bank holiday?

It is either skipped and added to the end, or moved to the next business day. The agreement or schedule should say which.

Why does my last payment date differ from what I expected?

Most estimates ignore bank holidays. Each holiday on a daily schedule pushes the end one business day later.

Can the schedule change after I sign?

Only as the agreement allows, for example through a reconciliation, an agreed pause or a modification. Get every change in writing.
