What happens in the first few hours
| When | What is happening | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| Immediately | Your file is logged and checked for completeness | Watch for a document request |
| Within an hour | Statements reviewed for deposits and consistency | Answer any question quickly |
| 2-4 hours | Underwriting decision on a complete file | Nothing — wait |
| Same day | Offer issued if approved | Read total repayment and first payment date |
| Same/next day | Contracts signed, funds sent | Mind bank cut-off times |
What you may be asked for
A follow-up request is normal and usually means something specific needs clarifying rather than that the file is in trouble.
The two things that still speed it up
First, answer follow-ups the same hour rather than the next day. A file waiting on one page sits still. Second, if anything has changed since you applied — a new position taken, a large payment going out — say so now rather than letting underwriting find it.
If the answer is no
A decline is information, not a verdict. Ask specifically what drove it: deposit volume, consistency, an existing position, or time in business. Each has a different fix and some resolve in weeks. We publish what happens next after a decline from most major funders — see compare other funders.
Common questions
How long until I hear back?
Typically 2 to 4 hours on a complete file. Incomplete documents are the usual cause of longer waits.
Why am I being asked for more documents?
Usually a missing statement page or an unusual deposit needing context. It is routine.
Can I change the amount after applying?
Yes — tell us before the offer is issued so the file is sized correctly the first time.
What if I am declined?
Ask what drove it. Deposit consistency and existing positions are the common causes, and both can change.
