Card machine guide · Cafes & quick service
For bagel shops the Clover Station Duo is the usual starting point: morning rush, dozen-pricing and schmear modifiers. Here is how we size the setup and what to avoid.

At Merchant Fund Express, we set up Clover for which credit card machine is best for a bagel shop: the right devices, the features that matter in your workflow and on-site training for your staff.
For most bagel shops we start with the Clover Station Duo. The Duo is the full countertop system: two screens, a built-in printer, tap, chip and swipe, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, and fingerprint login for staff. We lead with the Duo rather than the Station Solo because the Solo does not accept contactless tap, which most bagel shops need.
The morning rush is violent and short. Between 6:30 and 9:30 the counter turns lines of regulars, many of whom order the same thing every day, and then volume drops sharply.
Bagels are sold singly and by the dozen, with spreads, toppings and sandwich builds on top. A dozen button that applies the baker's-dozen rule and a modifier group for spreads keeps the counter fast.
Cards and taps dominate, with cash from older regulars. Many customers pay for a whole office order in one transaction, so large single tickets are normal.
Early opening hours mean one or two people at the register, so PIN login speed matters and shift reports show who opened and who closed.
One Station Duo at the counter with a built-in printer for tickets, a second Mini or Flex for a second line, and a kitchen printer or display if the build line is separate.
Our team ships hardware configured, then comes on site to place it, connect it, build your items and train your staff. We stay on the line through your first service.
| Role | Device | Why it earns its place |
|---|---|---|
| Primary | Station Duo | The main register for fast morning lines |
| Add-on | Mini | Second lane or pre-order pickup station |
| Add-on | Kitchen Display 14" | If sandwiches are built behind the counter |
Do not leave "dozen" as a custom amount typed in by hand. Build it as an item so inventory and reports show how many bagels actually walked out the door.
With Merchant Fund Express you deal with the people who set the system up. We come on site, train your team and stay reachable by phone, and our funding side is there if you later need capital or equipment financing.
