The short version

Merchant Fund Express explains payments in plain English so owners can make better decisions about equipment and processing.

Both are full countertop systems with a built-in printer. The deciding facts are contactless tap and the customer-facing screen.

The Station Solo is one 14-inch staff screen that accepts chip and swipe. It does not accept contactless tap. The Station Duo adds an 8-inch customer-facing display and accepts contactless tap as well as chip and swipe.

That makes the first question simple: do your customers tap to pay? If they do, the Duo is the countertop system to choose, or the Solo can sit beside a Flex that takes taps. If your customers insert or swipe, the Solo is a clean, simple counter.

How to decide

Choose the Solo if

Your customers pay by chip or swipe, tickets are quick and you want a clean counter footprint with a 14-inch screen and built-in printer.

Choose the Duo if

Customers tap to pay, you ask for tips at the counter or you want customers to confirm their order on their own display.

If you need tap on a Solo counter

Pair it with a Flex or move to the Duo; do not expect contactless acceptance from the Solo itself.

Space and speed

The Duo takes a little more counter room for its second screen, and the customer screen can speed a line because customers confirm while staff keep working.

A worked example

A hardware store where customers insert chip cards and rarely tip runs well on a Station Solo. A neighborhood cafe where most customers tap and many tip at the counter belongs on a Station Duo, with the Solo kept for a back-office or second station.

Before you decide: three questions

What is the busiest ten minutes of my day, and what happens in them?
Where will it live, and how will it be powered and connected?

Common questions

Does the Station Solo accept tap to pay?

No. The Solo accepts chip and swipe. If you need contactless tap at the counter, choose the Station Duo or add a Flex.

Can I add a customer screen to a Solo later?

The customer-facing screen is part of the Duo. If you need it, we move you to a Duo and can reuse the Solo as a second station.

Do they need different software?

No. They run the same Clover software and share items, employees and reports.

Can I mix them?

Yes. Many restaurants run a Duo at the main counter and a Solo at a second station where customers insert or swipe.
