How it actually works

Research from groups such as the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative has documented that Latino-owned businesses are less likely to receive full bank funding even with similar performance. Contributing factors include thinner credit files, cash-heavy revenue that never hits a bank account, and less access to lending relationships. Each of these can be addressed.

Start by making revenue visible. Depositing all sales, including cash, into a business account builds the statement history that revenue-based funders rely on. Many of those funders consider personal credit from 500 and can review an application in English or Spanish, which matters for owners who prefer to discuss terms in their first language.

Community resources help too. Community development financial institutions (CDFIs), SBA microloan intermediaries and Hispanic chambers of commerce offer lower-cost loans and technical assistance, often with flexible credit criteria. They usually take longer, so pairing them with faster working capital for immediate needs is common.

An ITIN can be enough to apply with some funders, and sole proprietors can qualify with business deposits. Through MFE, one application reaches multiple funders, with same-day decisions and next-day funding possible when documents are complete.

Cash-heavy businesses such as restaurants, salons and construction crews often have more revenue than their statements show. Moving to card and digital payments, and depositing all cash consistently, can raise the revenue funders see within a few months without any change in actual sales.

Bilingual documents also matter. If tax returns, contracts or invoices are in Spanish, a short summary in English can speed review with funders whose underwriters work in English. MFE handles applications in both languages.
