How it actually works

Hour zero: gather the essentials. You need the last three to six months of complete statements from your business bank account, a government-issued ID for each owner, your business legal name, EIN and address as registered with the Puerto Rico Department of State, and a voided check or bank letter. If you already have an advance or loan, note the balance and payment.

Hours one to eight: apply and get reviewed. Submit one complete application; through MFE it reaches multiple funders, and owners can work in Spanish. Underwriters review deposits, balances and existing payments and check credit, considering scores from 500. Many files receive a decision or offer the same day.

Hours eight to twenty-four: compare and sign. Look at net cash, total payback, payment amount and frequency, estimated term and any early-payoff discount at 30, 60 or 90 days. Ask questions in Spanish if you prefer, then sign electronically. Expect a short verification call; answering promptly keeps the timeline intact.

Hours twenty-four to forty-eight: funds arrive. ACH transfers usually land the next business day; holidays specific to Puerto Rico and federal bank holidays can add a day. Industries commonly funded this way on the island include restaurants, colmados and retail, construction and contractors, tourism services and medical practices, each with its own seasonal rhythm to consider when choosing a payment schedule.

If your business receives government contract payments, include the contract and payment schedule with your application. Government payers in Puerto Rico can take longer to pay than private customers, and showing the expected timing helps an underwriter size funding that bridges those delays.
